After the readings, there is a constructive discussion about how well the work is serving the objective of the playwright. These are not cold readings, Pulse provides the actors for the scenes, and gets scripts to the actors, so that they can read the scripts before the workshop meets. The group is currently under the leadership of nationally and internationally produced award winning playwright Lezley Steele. All playwrights in the group are expected to participate in discussion about all the works being read, not just their own. The group is never larger than ten playwrights. The Lab. is a four-month (consecutive) session. At the end of the four months, if the work is ready, it will receive a public reading. Pulse casts the play and provides the director. Playwrights are welcome to continue working on their play until it is deemed ready for a public reading. This is not a beginning level class. The Playwright must have a work in progress, and be willing to continue working on the script; this is not a workshop for people who consider that their work is already completed. The fee is $100. per month, payable, in advance or on the last session of each month (for the next month). Playwrights are admitted into the group based upon their writing skills and enthusiasm for the process.
