EXCERPT:

“I shouldn’t be surprised to meet [the killer] out walking, right here in Philadelphia,” said one of the staff. “He’ll be disguised, of course, but you could always tell him by the absence of the trigger finger on his right hand. It’s missing, you know; shot off when he was a boy.”
A newspaper guy needs to solve the crime so he can get the scoop (his job’s on line). Lots of action; lots of plot; plenty of scenes and conflict. You’d probably want to add a love story, and you’d want to get a firm handle on the tone. (Is it a scary mystery/detective story? Probably not. Is it more moody and funny, like City of Angels? Probably so.) But the story structure is sturdy enough to handle a number of different approaches.
